How can anyone watch this video and not believe there is an overwhelming fear of the black person. That fear is the basis for the racism people say doesn’t exist. That fear COMES from the racism people say doesn’t exist. That fear is so great that even trying to comply with police instructions scares the cop so badly that he pumps multiple rounds into a peaceful, unarmed man in from of his daughter and then searches and arrests this little girl’s mother. (Edit: He was armed, he had a license to carry, he did not draw his weapon, which in my books is the same as unarmed.)
This is why people of non white descent don’t trust the police. This is why Black Lives Matter required police floats be removed from the Toronto Pride Parade. There have been too many instances where officers are using deadly force and then saying they feared for their lives. They are police officers. They went into this field knowing there would be danger and in fear of their lives every time they put on the uniform.
People of colour are in fear of their lives every single day, because their “uniform” is their skin. A native man running across Canada to raise awareness of missing Aboriginal women is stopped because someone saw him running and got scared of the “crazy Indian” running down the highway and he might have been waving a gun. He is unarmed. A police officer pulls over someone because of a broken taillight, which should have resulted in a ticket at most, resulted in a dead father.
I was upset about what BLM did during Toronto Pride. I was wrong. Some of you might unfriend me or take what I have just posted as anti-police. That is your right, and I will miss you, but if this video doesn’t give you the least amount of pause, you probably weren’t who I thought you were either.
